Marshmallow Spider Web Caramel Apples

It’s not fall until you have a caramel apple! Am I right? Well, a combo that I happen to love is caramel and marshmallow, sooooo it only made sense to add that into the mix this year.

Last year for my son’s birthday, I made a cake and added “spider webs” on it since he is an October baby. Marshmallow spider webs are insanely easy to make, you just need to be willing to get your hands a little messy.

So, this year is all about the Halloween bar cart. Bar carts are fun to decorate because they can easily roll in and roll out. I wanted this bar cart to have a little Halloween treat on it, so, enter caramel apples with marshmallow spider webs!! (video here)

How to make Marshmallow Spider Web Caramel Apples

Apples

Kabobs, popsicle sticks, or candy sticks work

Caramel, amount will vary based on however many apples you want to make. I made up a batch of my homemade caramel and it was enough to make 5-6 apples depending on their size.

1-12oz package marshmallows

Cupcake liners

Parchment paper

Cooking spray, optional

Instructions:

Make sure the apples are clean, dry, and room temperature.

Place the sticks securely into the apples.

Melt the caramel according to package instructions or, if using homemade caramel, melt on the stove in a small pot.

Dip the apples into the melted caramel and place onto the parchment paper and allow to set.

Place about half the bag of marshmallows into a microwave safe bowl and place the bowl in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds or until the marshmallows start to puff up. This will melt the marshmallows enough to be stretchy.

Use a fork to stir the marshmallows around.

Use the tips if your fingers to grab the marshmallows and pull apart to create a “web” look. Pull enough to create a web that can go onto the marshmallows. It will stick easily. It helps to have another set of hands to help by holding the apple up so that you can get a good web onto it.

I like to place mine onto a cupcake liner so that I can place them wherever! It helps to spray a little cooking spray onto the cupcake liner so they don’t stick too much.

Caution, these WILL be messy and sticky. After a while, the marshmallows will set and not be as sticky though.
