Simple Summer Self-Care

From Scratch With Maria

You’ve all read by now that self-care is an essential part of making sure that we stay healthy and maintain overall wellness. Still, between moving to a new home and the current state of the world, my personal self-care routine has started to require a little extra TLC of its own. So today, I wanted to share my simple summer routine for those of you who are looking to adopt some new self-care practices and might be having difficulty starting (or continuing) your practice too. Here are my simple tips for taking the time you need to listen to your body — find a moment to check-in and start feeling more energized and fulfilled in no time!

  • A Morning Coffee (or Tea) Routine - The first and in my eyes most essential reason I consider coffee to be a healthy part of my self-care routine is that I LOVE IT—the aroma, the ritual, and even down the adorable coffee mug in my hand. Coffee is pretty much the thing that makes me happiest in the morning. I know I’m not alone. I just picked the Keurig® K-Classic®Coffee Maker, and it is a game-changer. I pop in a coffee pod, and in less than a minute, I'm taking in that wonderful coffee aroma. There really is nothing like that first cup of coffee in the morning. Little rituals like these really are the ingredients that make up a great day!

  • Energizing My Skincare Routine - The summer heat can do a number on your skin; that’s why this Nutrient Mist by Renew is my new go-to. Packed with antioxidants that our skin craves, this 2 oz bottle is easy to keep on hand when you’re on the go. With all the errands and Zoom playdates to keep up with, it can be hard to find time to partake of some much-needed self-care but when I spray a bit of this, and I feel the subtle notes of jasmine, neroli, and rose, I immediately feel the calming notes soothe my skin.

  • Keeping Up My Journal Practice - I’m not going to lie, it can get extremely tough to stay present, especially when JJ keeps me up at night or wakes me up early in the morning but when I take a moment to journal my thoughts and feelings, I have a much calmer day. Taking a few moments out of your day to write down what you’re feeling is an effective way of staying in the here and now. Staying present in the moment helps with staying connected to your kids and yourself. To me, that is essential self-care. Also, having a super cute journal kinda makes it fun too!

  • Yoga For My Body (And Mind!) - Taking care of my body is a large component of my self-care routine. I think it’s really important to note that it doesn’t have to include a vigorous exercise routine (but if that’s what you’re into, more power to you!). The key is doing something that moves your body and that you enjoy - for me, that’s yoga. Yoga helps me feel centered and connected with my body. I love the ceremony of it too. Taking out my favorite yoga pants, filling my water bottle, unfurling my yoga mat. All these steps taken with care brings me such a sense of calm and gratitude. I invite you to give it a try!

  • Get Some Fresh Air - Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your mind, body, and soul is just move! If your head is feeling foggy instead of trying to think your way out of it, throw on a pair of sneakers and get your heart pumping and your legs moving! These super cute and even comfier running shoes by New Balance hit all the marks. Great athletic support and cushion? Check. Look fab with my athletic wear, while not essential but totally necessary? Check!
