DIY Spider Headband and Spider Web Bow
Oh Halloween! I love this holiday, but my relationship with it has changed since having kids. I find that there is so much expectation as parents to wear a family costume and go all out OR there are parents that think the family costumes are crazy. Well, I am here for some balance. Family costumes are super fun, but my kids tend to want to be very different things, so I want to allow them to have fun being whatever they choose. I, personally, think it’s super boring to not get into the holiday, but I also want to be comfy so that I can chance my kids around.
Enter… yoga pants.
Yup… yoga pants.
Listen, I am doing a million things for everyone else on Halloween, the least I can do for myself is feel comfortable while doing it. The two DIYs I came up with are perfect to go with some comfy yoga pants. This DIY spider headband and spider web bow turned out to be much more chic that I envisioned in my head. I just put it together with a black top and black yoga pants and I was in business. If you live in a colder part of the country, this is a great way to dress up a heavy coat as well.
These DIYs are SUPER easy to make and you can customize it however you like. It all starts with a plain headband and some plastic spiders. I like to add glitter to mine, but it’s totally optional. The spider web bow starts with some tulle and the same spiders as the headband. I thought tulle was a good idea because it looks like a spiderweb! Tulle is extremely inexpensive and a little bit goes a long way. Get some now and you can save it for your Christmas wrapping.
Spider headband
Plastic spiders
Spray adhesive
Black glitter
Black headband
Hot glue gun
Place the spiders on a covered surface. I usually like to use wax paper.
Working in an outdoor space, spray the spiders with the spray adhesive.
Pour the glitter generously over the spiders.
Allow the glitter to set for around 10-15 minutes, then shake off the excess glitter.
If you are concerned about glitter getting on clothes, etc., then spray them again with the spray adhesive and let them dry completely. This will seal in the glitter. The downside to this is that the it can dull the shininess of the glitter
Use the hot glue gun to attach the spiders to the black headband.
Allow the glue to dry and it’s ready to be worn.
Spiderweb bow
glittered spiders (see instructions for the spider headband)
white tulle
hot glue gun
Measure out enough tulle to be made into a large bow.
Attach the glittered spiders onto the tulle by placing a dot of hot glue onto the spider and then placing the spider onto the tulle.
This should attach pretty quickly, but I like to work on a covered surface in case any of the glue drips.
Allow the glue to dry completely.
Wear this as desired! I made mine into a big bow around my neck, but you could wear it as a belt, a bow in your hair, etc!!
