Stovetop Popcorn

STOVETOP POPCORN

STOVETOP POPCORN

With the Oscars coming up this weekend I thought it would be a perfect time to talk about how

easy

it is to make stovetop popcorn.  I am not a fan of microwaves!

This way you can add more fun ingredients that are much more natural that yellow powder that "tastes" like butter.

All you need

:

Popcorn kernels

Olive Oil

Butter

Salt

Parmesan (optional)

Rosemary (optional)

*In a large heavy pot pour enough kernels to coat the bottom of the pan.... just one layer.  If you add more than that it won't all fit in the pan when it pops.

*Coat the kernels with olive oil.  Just enough so that they are all coated.

*Cover with the lid

*Turn the heat on to medium to medium-high (not all the way to high though)

*I like to shake the pan every once in awhile in the heating up process

*Once the kernels start popping you should shake the pan every once in a while as well to keep them moving around

*Meanwhile chop up about a tablespoon of fresh rosemary

*Also have your cheese and grater ready to go

*You will know when the popcorn should be taken off the heat when the popping slows down. Don't leave it on too long because the popcorn burns easily.

*Turn stove off and pour the popcorn into another bowl

*Add 1-2 tablespoons of butter (or however much you like) into the hot pan and allow to melt.

*Pour the melted butter over the popcorn

*Return the popcorn to the pan

*Sprinkle on salt

*Sprinkle on half of the rosemary

*Start grating as much cheese as you would like

*Then put the lid back on and, using hot pads on each handle, shake the pan up and down to mix

*Remove the lid and add more rosemary (if you would like)

*Add move cheese (if you would like)

*Add more salt if needed

*Repeat the mixing if needed.  Mixing this way I found works great because it helps the cheese melt better onto the popcorn because of the hot pan.

*Pour popcorn back into the separate bowl... and eat!

I know this may seem like more of a process than microwaving a bag, but it tastes SO MUCH BETTER and you can really add anything you want to make it your own.

So fun to enjoy some stovetop popcorn during a movie night!
