PJ Masks Halloween Fun

Halloween, costumes, and pumpkin carving are definitely three things that need to be checked off on your fall “to-do” list this year!! It doesn’t matter if Halloween is going to be different this year than it has in the past, we are celebrating in our home! 

Costumes are a big deal for kids! I remember when I was little how much I would look forward to dressing up for Halloween. This year my kids are majorly into PJ Masks!  We sing the theme song ALL OF THE TIME! Their faces lit up as soon as they saw the Catboy and Gekko costumes! 

Since dressing up for Halloween and pumpkin carving are two of my favorite fall traditions, I thought that we should put the two together this year to make the pumpkin carving extra special AND get some good use out of the kids’ costumes. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had. In order to help our creative process while carving, and to go with the theme of our costumes, we downloaded some really fun PJ Masks Carving Stencils. These allow the kids to really participate in the process of the carving because they can help draw the lines and if they are old enough to carve the pumpkin it helps to give them a guide to follow. 

One of my favorite traditions to do while carving pumpkins is to roast the seeds!!! The kids love to scoop the seeds out of the pumpkins before carving. All you need to do is remove most of the pieces of the pumpkin from the seeds (but don’t wash them) and place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and drizzle with some olive oil, a few dollops of butter, and a sprinkle of salt. Use your hands to toss everything together so the seeds are evenly coated and then roast them in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, stirring every 5-7 minutes, until they are golden and crispy. Allow them to cool and then snack away!! 

While the kids were waiting on the seeds to roast, they played with the PJ Masks Activity sheet that I downloaded for them here. I’m always looking for ways to get them to practice their writing, counting, and reading without having them lose interest, so adding their favorite TV characters into the mix was helpful with that!! 

Aren’t our pumpkins so cute!? Owelette was my favorite! I’m so happy we made the effort to still hold on to our Halloween traditions and make them even more fun this year!
