Trying out a Pressure Cooker by Avalon Bay
When I think of pressure cookers, I think of the very high tech gadgets that are used on Iron Chef! They have always been something that I have been intimidated by, because I thought they were meant for restaurant kitchens and competition shows only. I have been seeing them all over Pinterest, so I figured I would give it a shot. If other home cooks can do it, then so can I! With that, I gave the Avalon Bay PC1000SS Pressure Cooker a try. I was a little nervous getting started with the pressure cooker, because I thought if I did one thing wrong the whole thing would blow up. I made sure to watch the tutorials that Avalon Bay provides on their YouTube channel, because if you are anything like me, then you learn better by watching someone do the steps. After I figured out what I wanted to make, then I went through the written instructions to find out the specific measurements and timing on what I planned on making.
I wanted to start with something small, just to get the idea of how to use it, so I decided on potatoes. I boil potatoes all of the time to make crispy breakfast potatoes, but it is such a pain to wait for the water to boil. When you cook potatoes, like any other root vegetable, you need to start with cold water….which makes the process take forever. So, I wanted to see if I could cut the timing on that step down with the pressure cooker.
First I added in the water (following the amounts given in the instructions), and then placed the steamer attachment in. Then, I placed the cut up potatoes on top of the steamer attachment with a sprinkle of salt. Then I followed the instructions for the setting and timing. It only took 15 minutes and it worked!!
After trying this out, I want to try experimenting with food that I don’t normally try that takes too long, like pulled pork! I have always wanted to try it, but never seem to find the time, so using the pressure cooker to try out these higher difficulty foods won’t be so difficult now.
