Repurposed DIY Spin Vase Inspired by Juliska and Crate and Barrel

Now, I am not a hoarder (I promise!), but I do feel bad throwing things away. I hold onto them for a bit before tossing them, because sometimes they can turn into something spectacular. I had a vase that I used for a Gold Leaf Craft for The Hallmark Channel's Home and Family Show, and this was one of my experiments when I was prepping for the segment. To be honest, it was awhile ago and I don't remember what even happened to create this disaster, but I didn't want to throw away a perfectly good vase. So, this poor guy has been sitting around for about a year with no love.

I recently broke (and cried) my favorite Juliska vase that we got as a wedding gift. Juliska is a very nice, and very expensive line of tableware. They have signature designs that are made from glass, and they are very fragile and beautiful.

Around the same time I saw these cool Spin Vases from Crate and Barrel. So I took a look at my sad vase that I haven't used in a year, and thought that I could give it a similar look with a glue gun and some paint. It worked! I had to use paint to cover my little mess up but I like that I am able to put fake flowers in the vase and not worry that you can see through it. It gives the illusion that the flowers are real!

As for the paint, I tried doing a couple coats of the acrylic craft paint, and it was still streaky. I'm sure if you did a bunch of coats that it would eventually cover, but I had spray paint around (who doesn't?), so I tried doing that instead. It worked out so much better, and it was MUCH faster!

Repurposed DIY Spin Vase Inspired by Juliska and Crate and Barrel

Supplies:

Vase

Glue Gun

Paint or Spray Paint; I recommend spray paint

Directions:

Carefully use the hot glue gun to draw imperfect lines around the vase in desired design

Allow to cool

Paint OR if you are planning on spay painting, make sure to go outside in a well ventilated area, and work on a covered surface; when I spray paint, I usually just use a box (picture below)
