DIY Fruit Vases on The Hallmark Channel's Home and Family
Whenever I am entertaining, I have to have flowers! So, I love mixing up the way I present the flowers. For summer, I love this idea of using fruit as the vase itself, or adding it into the vases to make them look extra bright and pretty.
Lemon Vases:
Supplies
two vases; a small one that can fit into the larger one with enough space for a slice of lemon to fit between
lemons, limes, grapefruit, or any citrus of choice
water
flowers
scissors
Directions:
*Place the smaller vase in the center of the large vase and fill the small vase about half way with water
*Thinly slice the citrus of choice and place between the two vases until it is full
*Fill the space with water
*Place the cut flowers into the smaller vase
Tip: Cut the flowers down so that they cover the top of the vase so that you do not see that there are two vases
Watermelon Vase
Supplies;
Watermelon
Vase that will fit into the watermelon
large plastic bag or plastic wrap
flowers
scissors
knife
spoon or melon baller
Directions:
*Cut the top of the watermelon using the knife
*Use and spoon or melon baller to scoop out the center of the watermelon
Tip: You want to remove as much of the fruit in the watermelon as possible so you do not attract bugs
*Place a large plastic bag around the vase and place the vase into the watermelon; make sure to add some water to the vase as well
*Cut the flowers and place them into the vase that is in the watermelon
Tip: make sure they cover the entire top of the watermelon so that you cannot see the inside of the watermelon or the vase
*If the bag is larger than them melon, simply tuck in the excess bag under the flowers
