Having flowers around the house is one of my favorite little luxuries. I try to buy flowers any time I am at the farmer's market or at the grocery store. If I don't have time to get fresh flowers I always have some realistic substitutes in their place. It is something small that brightens my day.

I thought of this craft when I was making marinara sauce. I always go through a bunch of cans and wanted to figure out a way that I could repurpose them. I was brainstorming about this at the craft supply store and saw a "cork roll," which, I'm pretty sure, I didn't even know existed. So, I figured I could repurpose the cans as another place for flowers AND make them sensible for a desk area since I would be able to attach notes onto the cork part of the "vase." Smart? I thought so...

This craft is really easy, it's really pretty, and makes for a unique gift. It's great for kids to make for moms on Mother's Day. It's also a cute teacher gift. You could even plant an herb or flower in the can instead!

DIY Cork Can Vases

cork roll

industrial strength glue

scissors

cans; I like to use the large 28 oz cans

spray paint (optional)

Directions

*Clean and dry the cans

*Make sure to remove any of the paper on the outside

*If you choose to spray paint, make sure to be outside in a well ventilated space and spray about 8 inches away with a steady spray and movement

*I did have to use my other hand a bit to rotate the can around, so if you are worried about getting paint on yourself, then be sure to wear gloves

*Spraying the interior of the can simply gives them more of a "finished" look

*Allow them to dry completely

*Instead of getting all fancy with my measuring, I simply placed the can on the cork roll and made marks with a pen as to where I should cut

*Use a ruler to make sure to cut in a straight line; don't bother using an x-acto knife on this...it doesn't work...I tried!

*Once the cork is cut place make sure it's the correct length by placing it onto the can how you want it to look

*If everything lines up correctly then squeeze a good amount of glue onto the can where the two ends of the cork will meet

*Wrap the cork around the can again; hold the cork down for a minute or two until it dries; there is no way around this step...you just need to be patient

*Once the glue is dry you can place in any flowers you like!

*Add notes and pictures to the front with a tack
