Colorful and Fresh Pineapple Tablescape DIY

It all started with a pink pineapple!

When the weather becomes warmer, something in me starts to crave the tropical heat, and everything that goes with it. When I think of something tropical, I think of pineapples. Not only are they great in margaritas (recipe here), but they are so beautiful. I think we forget sometimes just how beautiful food really is. No other art can really compete with Mother Nature.

Setting tablescapes is one of my favorite things to do! For this one, I wanted lots of color, florals, and freshness. I literally took a pineapple and started painting it pink not really knowing where it was going to take me. Then I did blue, and then I did gold. I seriously could have kept going. When it comes to painting the top of the pineapple, acrylic craft paint does work, but you definitely need a couple coats. For the gold pineapple I used spray paint, and it was much easier. I did follow up with a bit more regular gold paint, because I was actually out of the spray paint at that point. Either way works though!

I knew I wanted to add flowers to the table setting, and wanted to think of a vase that went with the pineapple, and what better than more pineapples!? The vases are really easy if you have one of those pineapple corers. If you do not, then it can be a bit of work to get the insides of the pineapple out without getting frustrated. Using a scoop and a shape knife is the best way to go about it. The secret to making it a vase is to line it with a plastic bag, and fill it with water. Then, add the flowers in at the end. Try to look for pineapples that stand up nicely, and not off balance.

I set the pineapple decorations on a burlap table runner that I topped with faux palm leaves. In order to give the tablescape more height, I placed the pineapple vases onto candlesticks.

Pineapples

acrylic craft paint; I like Martha Stewart paint/ or you can use spray paint

paint brushes

Directions:

*Use a brush to paint the tops of the pineapples; allow to dry completely and paint another coat; repeat if necessary

*If you plan on spray painting the tops, cover the rest of the pineapple with aluminum foil, or anything that will cover it nicely. Spray the top of the pineapple in a well ventilated space (outdoors), on a covered surface; allow to dry completely before doing any touch ups.

corer (preferred), or a knife and scoop

large ziplock back

flowers

candlestick/paper plate/glue gun; optional

Directions

*Cut the tops off of the pineapples and use the corer to empty out the center, or carefully use a knife and scoop to remove the center

*Place the ziplock bag into the pineapple, keeping the top of the bag folder over the top

*Fill the bag with some water, about half way up

*Cut flowers to fit in the vase in desired style

*If you want to place the pineapple onto the candle stick, it helps to cut a paper plate to about the same size as the bottom of the pineapple and use a glue gun to secure the plate onto the candle stick. This allows for more space for the pineapple to sit on. If you are worried, then you can use a glue gun to attach the pineapple to the plate as well.

*Display!!
