Los Angeles is where a lot of styles and trends get their start! The salon Nine Zero One in West Hollywood is on the forefront of creating them!  One of my favorite people that I have met in Los Angeles, Shaylee Blatz, is bringing her inspiration and talent to your fingertips with her blog Hair By Shaylee.

I met Shaylee when I first moved out to Los Angeles and she was assisting the very talented (and super nice) Riawna Capri before Nine Zero One was even open.  Of course when the salon opened I followed them there and have been going to see Shaylee.  When I sit in her chair it's like talking to your best girlfriend.  She makes you feel happy and comfortable AND you leave feeling beautiful.  Shaylee is innovative and passionate because she loves what she does.  I am so excited that she decided to start a blog to showcase her work.  It's there to inspire other stylists as well as clients who are looking to do something new with their hair.  I had a hard time even choosing which pictures to put on here because there are so many good ones.  She posts her every day salon work and wedding styles, as well as her celebrity, red carpet, and print work.

I asked Shaylee to answer a few questions so that you can learn a little more about her and her site!

What are some of your favorite hair styles coming up for spring? My favorite hair style right now is the effortless looking California beach wave! It looks super natural and is very easy to achieve! Any client can do this look at home with an Enzo Milano 25mm curling wand paired with Après Beach Spray by Oribe.

What are some hair color trends are you doing a lot of? The big color trend right now is natural looking balayage! It is color that looks like it was done by the sun which focuses on brighter pieces around the face and the ends! I like to compare it to little kids hair color, they always have the perfect highlights! It is also very low maintenance, so a client can get it done as little or as often as they choose without looking like they have roots.

Where do you find your creative inspiration? I find my inspiration all around me. In nature, in art, and also current trends in the latest fashion magazines.

What are the most common hair mistakes your clients make? One of the biggest mistakes most clients make is not keeping up with frequent haircuts. People think that for their hair to grow that they shouldn't cut it at all but it is the opposite. It is important for clients to keep up with trims every 3 to 4 months to keep the split ends from breaking higher and higher cause their hair to stop growing.

What is your favorite piece of advice for clients to achieve the hair they are wanting? This varies from client to client depending on what their ultimate goal is. If they want longer hair then they should focus on getting frequent trims. If their hair tends to go brassy or get build up over time, they should look into using a purple shampoo or a shower filter. Everyone's hair is different and it is important for clients to discuss their concerns with their stylist so that they may properly address them.

How would you describe your style? My style is very California beach girl. I like messy hair that gives a more effortless look. I live in the best city in the world where anything goes. It all depends on how you rock whatever style you love and do it with confidence!

What can we look forward to seeing on the blog? The blog is a way to keep all of my work in one place! I will be posting weekly to show fun things happening in the salon and to keep clients inspired on new hair trends!
