Crafting on Hallmark's Home and Family
Today's segment on The Hallmark Channel's Home and Family show is all about showing support for your favorite sports teams! We are getting ready for football season by cutting up plain t-shirts to make them really fun and fashionable. It is a simple DIY that anyone can do, and works for any shape and size. We have Kenny and Gwendolyn Smith on the show today, so get ready for a lot of great energy and fun!
The step-by-step tutorial is below, along with some of the tips we didn't get time to touch on. I will post the video of the segment on my site as soon as I can after the show!
DIY Fashionable Sports T-Shirts
Tips: Use fabric scissors for clean lines, use chalk and a ruler to make sure everything is even, use making tape to measure how high to cut the fringe, hand wash the shirts and hang dry.
Supplies:
Cotton t-shirt; sizes will vary depending on desired outcome
Fabric scissors
Chalk
Ribbon; optional for tank top
ruler
DIY T-Shirt Dress
*Stretch out the neck a bit
*Put the shirt on like you normally would
*Put your arms through the neck of the shirt to stretch it out, it should continue to stretch
*Wear the shirt like you would a tube top dress
*Tie the sleeves in the back into a double knot OR if they won’t reach, tuck the sleeves in; you could also wrap a belt around your waist
DIY T-Shirt Skirt
*Stretch out the neck a bit
*Put the shirt on like you normally would
*Put your arms through the neck of the shirt to stretch it out, it should continue to stretch
*Pull the shirt to your waist where you want to wear the skirt
*Tie in a double knot in the back
*Cut any excess on the bottom if needed
DIY Tank Top with Bow
*Cut out the arms and neck of the shirt
*Cut a deep “V” shape in the back
*Tie a pretty ribbon towards the top
*Put the shirt on and cut more accordingly such as around the neck to make it looser, or around the bottom to make it shorter
DIY Off-The-Shoulder T-Shirt
*Simply cut around the neck; try the shirt on and adjust accordingly
*The neck can be stretched out even more to be larger, so you shouldn’t need to cut more unless the shirt is pretty small
*The bottom of the shirt can also be cut to make it shorter
DIY T-Shirt with Fringe
*Place a piece of masking tape along the length of the shirt where you want to cut the fringe up to
*Cut small strips perpendicular to where the masking tape is
*Pull lightly on each piece of fringe that is cut
DIY Fitted Shirt With Side Design (this one is good for making a very large shirt much smaller)
*Cut vertically following the seam of both sides of the shirt
*Then, cut horizontally about 2 or so inches depending on how much you want to shirt taken in, and tip the cut pieces together and double knot, this takes the sides of the shirt in any amount you wish.
